went to a mechanic and he said i needed new brake pads and rotors. he said it would cost about $150 for him to install them. so i have a few questions: can i use USED pads and/or rotors (possibly from a salvage yard) and install them myself or have somebody install them for me? its my belief that used parts would be much cheaper and if i were to get a friend/family member to install them it would save me the labor costs. also, i feel like this mechanic is a grade A crook. his prices are relatively good but things he “fixes” arent taken care of well. for example he replaced my tire rod ends only for me to discover they were improperly installed and he aligned my tires, but not properly.
its a 2002 chevy malibu, and its not that 150 is a lot (esp compared to other places) but its too much for half-a** work.
My car is a 97 mitsubishi eclipse gsx awd i use mobil 1 synthetic 15w-50 because of the mods i have done to it etc and that’s what was recommended for me to use ever since i did the mods to it…
would it be ok to switch to a lighter weight oil like 10w-40 i mean its really cold out here temps are in the teens and low digits and my car is having a hard time to start? i had to give it a jump this morning it did cranks but wouldn’t turn on.
im just worried if i switched to a lighter weight oil it will cause damage?
