Car A/C maintenance question. Please help?
Alright, so it’s summertime and it’s Florida. That equals one disgustingly hot car interior, and the fact that my A/C isn’t working makes it worse. Here are the details:
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant (ES V6, automatic), and the A/C unit works (compressor, blower motor, etc. — it’s all good). My problem are the controls.
The knob to turn the A/C from cold to hot stopped working properly, and even when I take off the console face to make sure the pulley system that changes the control from hot to cold is placed all the way on cold, it’s still not completely closing off the hot air vent.
I asked a mechanic who was doing my tune up, and he said it’s the “door that closes off the hot to let the cold air through. That door isn’t closing all the way so hot air is mixing with cold air, and so the air doesn’t cool down.” (I know I could ask him, but I would rather not).
Where is this door located? How can I find it, so I can maybe rig it to stay fixed on COLD so I don’t die of heat stroke. I’m fairly handy, and it seems like it’s something I couldn’t screw up too badly. I’m just not completely familiar with the anatomy of the A/C unit. Which part would this “door” be located?
Thank you in advance for your help.
